No more teacher's dirty looks

School's out forever! The John Stake Elementary School on Blue Ridge Cutoff in eastern Kansas City has construction fence and "keep out" signs. Its hard to tell if the building is being renovated or is scheduled to be torn down.

"Take a load off", Mural in Crossroads art district

This mural is painted on the side of a building in Kansas City MO's crossroads art district. When I first looked at it I really did think these were actual people waiting for a bus. The ladies' heads seem to be in 3D.

Actually, these are men working on the south "roof" of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, Kansas City MO. Taken with 20X zoom fully engaged.

Spontaneous Combustion

Shot at night without no tripod and a shaky hand. Boost of color via Picnik. Blue patch is a night show on exterior of a hotel. Whew!

How bad do you need a room ?

At first all I saw was the large M-O-T-E-L on lattice...and all I could think was "Bates Motel". I debated not showing the Budget Inn sign but wimped out. This place is where I'll go the very next time I think I'd like to get shot in the head.

Manny's vintage sign

Manny's has been a Kansas City institution for as long as I remember (I'm 60 years old), serving up Mexican fare in Kansas City's Crossroads art district.

Trails art series #3

Rusted metal silhouettes of travelers and what they incountered along the way west line the Interstate Highway I-435 for about a mile south of Bannister Road in Kansas City MO. This type of art is seen, primarily in unpopulated areas, across the eastern portion of Kansas. I believe this is all part of a related effort to commemorate the crossing on the prairie by peoples heading west on the Oregon and Santa Fe Trails.

He seems to be saying "Will you look at that...they'll never make 2000 miles". In many cases he was correct.

Ironic

The name of this drive-in movie theater complex commemorates the very road that distroyed the economy of this part of town. When US40 highway was bypassed, businesses closed and, if lucky, some lower functioning economy was substituted

This one depicts cooking dinner over a camp fire. "What's for dinner?"

When I first saw this one I thought the Indian had a head and/oir scalp and just how politically incorrect it was. I believe the truth is that he is sharing meat from his hunt with the travelers on the trail.
